Zoning Board of Adjustment

Zoning was first adopted in Meredith in 1971. It is required by statute that the zoning ordinance provide for the establishment of a Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA). The ZBA is a volunteer land use board appointed by the Board of Selectmen. The ZBA consists of five regular members plus alternate members, of which all must be Meredith residents.

The board has several statutory responsibilities, including:

  • Hear and decide appeals if it is alleged there is error in any order, requirement, decision, or determination made by an administrative official in the enforcement of the zoning ordinance.
  • Hear and decide requests for variance from the terms of the zoning ordinance.
  • Hear and decide requests for special exception as provided for in the zoning ordinance.
