The Meredith Conservation Commission will host a snowshoe tour of Page Pond Town Forest on Saturday, February 21 at 10:00 AM. The planned route for the trip is the three mile Multi-purpose Trail starting from the Barnard Ridge Road Trailhead. The destination is Page Pond and the historic Mill Dam. Along the way we will look for signs of wildlife including otter, deer, beaver, pileated woodpecker, turkey, snowshoe hare, and fox. A one mile route is an option for those who prefer a shorter trip.
This trip is moderate in difficulty, though it may be strenuous if there is deep snow. Participants should bring snowshoes and traction devices such as microspikes, warm layered clothing, water, snacks, and perhaps a thermos of a warm beverage. The trip is expected to take about three hours.
The event will be led by Scott Powell and other members of the Conservation Commission. The tour will leave from the trailhead on Barnard Ridge Road promptly at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 21st. The trailhead is 0.8 mile down Barnard Ridge Road from NH Route 25. A trail map and trail descriptions may be found on the Conservation Commission website at meredithnh.gov. Registration is required and is limited to ten participants. To register, or for more information, email the Meredith Conservation Commission at conservation@meredithnh.gov.

Public Input Requested: Regional Master Plan Update
The Lakes Region Planning Commission (LRPC) is in the process of updating the 2015 Regional Master Plan, and community participation is a vital part of this effort.
A Regional Master Plan serves as a long-range policy guide that outlines a shared vision for the Lakes Region’s future. It provides a framework for decision-making on land use, housing, transportation, economic development, natural resource protection, and other key regional priorities.
Your input will help shape strategies that support a resilient, vibrant, and sustainable Lakes Region.

Water Service Line Potholing
Project: Using contractors and water department staff to inspect and catalog water service line material using potholing methods.
Location: Services served by the Meredith Water Department whose service line material has not been confirmed through records review.
Start Date: October 2025
Estimated Completion Date: August 2028
Project Background
Approximately 45% of Meredith's resident population are serviced by the municipal water system. The Meredith Water Department serves its customers through approximately 1200 services or service lines.
Recent updates to the EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule mandate that all water systems inventory their service lines. A water service line is the underground pipe that delivers water from the main supply, usually found in the street, to your home. These lines can be constructed using lead, copper, galvanized steel, iron, or plastic.
In 2024, the Meredith Water Department submitted our preliminary Lead Service Line Inventory to NHDES. We received a grant to get the assistance of a consultant to complete an initial inventory of our service lines. From our records, we were able to identify several service lines as non-lead plastic or copper. For the majority of our services, we have no record of the material.
In October 2025, we will begin the field work to identify the material of the approximately 1000 service lines that are listed as unknown in the preliminary inventory. This will be done by potholing, using a vac truck to dig down to the service lines to see what the material is whether it be galvanized, lead, plastic or copper. In some cases, we may need the use of a backhoe to remove items, such as large rocks, that a vac truck cannot pick up. The field information will be used to update the inventory. When this field work is complete, we will then know where replacements need to take place.

Community Benefits
This effort is part of a statewide lead reduction initiative to reduce lead service lines.
The Meredith Water Department continues to optimize and maintain its corrosion control program. Through this program the water department keeps the lead and copper concentrations in the drinking water below the action levels set by EPA.
Funding
Most of this project is supported by a State Revolving Fund loan with 66% principal forgiveness. And some of this project is supported by a grant and the water operations budget that comes from the rates, charges and fees charged to water service customers.

Also known as “home title theft”, the schemes involve fraudsters who forge documents to record a phony transfer of property ownership at a county Registry of Deeds.
The fraudster perpetrators, once they record a property deed, can sell the land or home, take a mortgage on it, or rent it out to make a profit — with the actual owners forced to head to court to reclaim their property.
FBI data shows that there were 2,301 victims of this fraud from 2019 through 2023, with the victims reporting losing more than $61.5 million. In New Hampshire, 239 victims lost more than $4 million in that time.
Regularly monitor your property records online. Each county has its own Register of Deeds website allowing you to search for property records using the name of the property owner. Property owners in several New Hampshire counties can also subscribe to Property Fraud Alert and that will notify you every time a document is recorded in the register of deeds under the name(s) you have specified. This service is FREE!
